Every single person in the world is engaged in a constant fight to reconcile within themselves the difference between technological progress (exponential and ever accelerating growth/development) and cultural + social progress (linear growth/development).
Unless constant and considerable effort is put in to bridge the ever increasing gap that separates technological progress and cultural/social progress it threatens to become an unbridgeable chasm!
Sooner or later this gap becomes so big that the towel gets thrown in and people give up trying to bridge the two. An example of this can be seen when a large proportion of the white-collar work-force was dislocated and 'lost' in the first 10 years of the Personal Computer (PC) technology being introduced as a business tool in the 1980's.
Another example of how this radical shift is becoming can be seen by the relative lack of commonality between generations as their technological vs. cultural + social bases are so diverse. If we go back to a more technologically stable era (e.g. pre-industrial revolution) then there may be relatively minor difference over 3-4 generational steps.
During the unprecedented change in how we work and live over the past 3 generations it has become all to easy to go with the flow and lose oneself in the ensuing maelstrom of complexity.
No more I say, it is time to take back control and one way of doing this is to use the concept of 'Clarity+Simplicity' to provide an anchor in this time of ever increasing flux while being sufficiently flexible to use the new tools being thrown up on a daily basis.
