To quote a truism - 'the more things change the more they stay the same'.Even with the most rapid change the basic underlying themes, drivers and motivators are relatively constant. The levels of complexity and change that everyone experiences is reflective more of how the underlying framework is expressed, channeled and managed rather than actual changes in that framework.
For example, the rise of the internet: it is a tool that is enabling us to be more effective, efficient and speedier in what we do (information retrieval, management, buying and selling, communication etc.). The negative aspects can be related to others doing the same but with consequences/outcomes that are undesirable to us!
When you dig down to what is at the core, everybody to a certain extent has common needs such as 'food', 'clothes', and 'shelter'. Then when you begin to work your way up that is where higher order motivators and drivers begin to be felt. In our current culture and environment our base level is sufficiently high that great diversity is seen when you observe a group of people.
So what does this mean? In a business context it can be, somewhat blithely, boiled down to 'faster, better, cheaper, smarter'.
With accelerating change we have never been faced with more choice, options or possibilities. Being able to establish business clarity and then actively shape your future is essential - because you can either be the architect of your future or tossed around by forces beyond your understanding or control . . .
